The IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS) Malaysia Chapter has successfully organised a One-day workshop on “How to Write A Winning IEEE DEIS Journal Paper” on 21st August 2017 in Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). The workshop was also supported by UTeM High Voltage Engineering Research (HVER) Lab and Malaysian High Voltage Network (MyHVnet).

The lead facilitator of the workshop was Ir. Dr. Norazhar Bin Abu Bakar, the Deputy Dean (Research & Postgraduate Studies) of Faculty Electrical Engineering, UTeM. The workshop was attended by 8 participants, who are postgraduate students.

The objectives of the workshop were:
1. To understand the different requirements and scopes between IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation and IEEE Insulation Magazine from facilitator’s perspective
2. To learn the skills of writing winning review, experimental and simulation papers
3. To encourage authors to start writing good quality papers for IEEE DEIS journals

Generally, in this workshop, participants were briefed on how to write a paper title, abstract, introduction, methodology, results, discussion, conclusions and references. More importantly, different ways of writing between IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation and IEEE Insulation Magazine, supported with some examples were discussed. The most interesting part in the workshop was the participants were exposed with tips on how to respond to reviewers’ comments.

From this workshop, it is hoped that the shared experience and knowledge are beneficial to all participants and consequently, the number of published papers from institutions in Malaysia in IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation and IEEE Insulation Magazine can be increased.
