The International Conference on Condition Monitoring and Diagnosis 2016 (CMD 2016) was successfully held in Shaanxi Empark Grand Hotel, Xi’an, China from 25th to 28th September 2016. One of the members from IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS) Malaysia Chapter, Dr. Hazlee Azil Illias attended the conference as a presenting author. He presented a paper entitled “Condition monitoring of discharged ZnO surge arrester on temperature distribution under various design conditions” in one of the poster sessions.

CMD 2016 was organised by Xi’an Jiaotong University, China. CMD 2016 was technically sponsored by Xi’an Jiaotong University, IEEE, DEIS, CIGRE, China Electrotechnical Society and SEE. The conference was also supported by XIHARI XD Group, MEIDEN and Cantwell.

CMD 2016 was an excellent opportunity for researchers and engineers to present and discuss the latest findings in condition monitoring and diagnosis field. The conference has aimed for making new acquaintance for the participants and for promoting international collaboration on the condition monitoring and diagnosis.

The technical program of the conference consists of papers presented in regular, poster and plenary sessions covering a broad range of areas such as:

  1. Evaluation of failure and degradation of power equipment based on CMD
  2. Advanced sensors and diagnosis techniques for Smart Grid
  3. Strategy planning and asset management for power equipment
  4. Fusion of Big Data and Smart Grid Control with CMD techniques for power equipment
  5. Insulation structure design and lifetime assessment for HVDC system
  6. Degradation and lifetime assessment of new energy devices for power generation and storage

The conference consists of 2 plenary lectures, 7 invited talks, 3 poster sessions and 16 oral sessions. More than 200 papers from this conference will be published in IEEE Xplore.

Overall, the conference saw participation of over 250 people from over 20 different countries, whom largely from China. There was a strong attendance from Xi’an Jiaotong University.
