25th January 2016: First MyHVnet Colloquium 2016

The first Malaysian High Voltage Network (MyHVnet) Colloquium was successfully co-organised by MyHVnet and IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS) Malaysia Chapter on 25th January 2016 in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Bahru. The objectives of the colloquium were to provide a networking platform and exchange information and knowledge between academicians, students and industries in Malaysia in high voltage engineering field.
The colloquium saw overwhelming participation from various academic institutions and industries across Malaysia. They include Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Malaya Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Kuala Lumpur, Tenaga Nasional Berhad Research Sdn. Bhd. and AM SGB Sdn. Bhd.
The colloquium was attended by 104 participants, which include presenting and non-presenting authors. 71 extended abstracts were accepted for this colloquium, which were featured in five different tracks; they are lightning, insulation and electrical discharges, condition monitoring, transformers and other high voltage related areas. The colloquium consists of 9 oral sessions.
The colloquium began with five invited talks, which were delivered by professionals from various organisations in Malaysia. The talks, according to each track, are as follows; “Challenges in Condition Monitoring” by Dr. Hidayat Zainuddin (Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka), “Asset Management of Transformer Fleet: An Overview” by Mr. Mohd Aizam Talib (Tenaga Nasional Berhad Research Sdn. Bhd.), “Comparison of Partial Discharge Models in Condition based Monitoring” by Dr. Hazlee Illias (Universiti Malaya), “Evaluation of Lightning Return Stroke Current using Measured Field” by Dr. Mahdi Izadi (Universiti Putra Malaysia) and “Partial Discharge Location Technique for Covered-conductor Overhead Distribution Line” by Dr. Muzamir Isa (Universiti Malaysia Perlis).
The next MyHVnet Colloquium will be held at Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2018.
